Walt Disney’s childhood was the happiest time of his life. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 15, 1901. When he was four he moved to Missouri and lived on a farm. In school he was the class clown. One time he caught a field mouse and brought it into class on a leash. Walt spent hours drawing. He loved to make cartoons. One time his neighbor liked his cartoons so much that she had him paint cartoons on her house. He went to McKinley High School and there he focused on drawing cartoons. At night he went to Fine Arts Academy. When he was older he worked in France and drove an ambulance. Instead of the ambulance having a red cross, it was filled with his cartoons! This happened between 1918 and 1919.
When Walt moved back to the United States he saw one-minute commercials that had cartoons moving across a movie screen. At that moment he decided that he wanted to be an animator. He started to make his own “moving cartoons.” No one was buying them so he decided to start his own company. After many tries he finally got noticed in Hollywood. After a few beginning struggles, Disney Studios took off.
Disney’s first full length movie was “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” It was a very popular movie. Over the years he made many more movies. He went to an amusement park and got the idea of making one of his own. First he made Disney Land in California and later he decided to open one in Florida so people from coast to coast could enjoy his parks. Walt Disney died of lung cancer on December 15, 1966. Even after he died they opened parks all over the world and continue to make animated movies.
